“Very, Very Temporary”

Got a new notebook.

Look… see… feel the inspiration. I’m writing up class notes and other varying thoughts and callbacks from my improv-student life.

I’ll be on stage for the first time this weekend. Not telling what stage, what time or with what group because I want exactly NO ONE from outside my classes to see me. I’ll start pimping out performances once I can get past the “I’M GOING TO BREAK IMPROV!” thoughts out of my head and one show under my belt. Everything from nothing, right?

This weekend in Louisiana was a win/win all the way around. I came back with more than I left with, ate like a queen and spent real, can’t-be-replaced quality time with my family. Except for my dad, who had to stay home for this Father’s Day trip because of his leg. Which is making me nervous, but he’s getting care, so that’s good. I’m trying not to worry any more than I need to about any thing that’s out of my control to make better. (It’s not working very well, FYI, but can’t blame a girl for trying.) And if I’m going to do right by conversations from a week or so ago, I’ll do right to remember not to get it my head that I can control anything.

We were comped tickets to see Ron White perform stand-up. He’s hilarious. Which, to be honest, I didn’t expect. I associate him with The Blue Collar Comedy Tour and was nervous it was going to be puro redneck jokes. I mean, it’s Bossier City, I didn’t know what to expect. I even told my sister that if there was one Mexican crack I was walking out. Little did I know he’s married to a latina whose brother is one of the Latin Kings of Comedy.

So yeah, a weekend of surprises. (Of all kinds, really.)

Want to see pennies turn into dollah, dollah bills, y’all?

Of course I picked Samantha and of course I picked the animal-print heels.

Monopoly. Oh yes, I will go to TOWN on Monopoly machines.

There we have it — gambling, performing, surprises, deep breaths and the ever-present reality that Peter Pan is not a career or life choice.

These are my June lessons, thus far. We’ll see what the last week will bring.
